Professional & Education:
Steve is the Principal, with Fides Munusque Fidele, Inc., a national level public affairs and strategic communications consulting firm. Steve has served as the executive director of the Nebraska Business Leaders Summit, Director of Community Relations, US Strategic Command, Chief of Environmental Public Affairs for the National Guard Bureau at the Pentagon, and a reporter for The Orlando Sentinel in Florida. He is retired after 38 ears of service with the Army National Guard and Army Reserve. He earned the rank of Sergeant Major, and he served his last assignment as the Chief of Public Affairs, Headquarters U.S. Forces Japan. Upon graduation from Boys Town High School, as an Omaha World Herald scholar in 1980, Steve attended college at the University of Nebraska and graduated with a B.A. in Journalism from the University of Central Florida in 1986. He earned a M.S. in Public Administration from Central Michigan University in 1998. Steve earned certificates in Advanced Risk Communication from Columbia University, Dispute Resolution from the Harvard-MIT Negotiation Project, and Non-Profit Fund Raising Management from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He is the first IAP2 Master Certified Public Participation Professional in North America.
Community Service & Philanthropy:
Steve lead the project to dedicate life-size bronze statues of Father Flanagan in Ballymoe, Ireland and Boys Town, Nebraska while also forging a Sister-City relationship between the village where Father Flanagan was born and raised in (Ballymo) with the village he founded in Nebraska (Boys Town). He chaired the Community Service Committee of the Nebraska Chapter of the Public Relations of Society of America where he assisted organizations including Project Extra Mile, Presbyterian Outreach and was a founding member of the James Leuschen Fellowship (scholarship foundation). He serves as an ambassador of the Catholic Professionals and Business Club for two parishes in Omaha. Steve also serves as a media relations committee volunteer with the Omaha Metro Medical Response System.
Faith & Ministry:
Roman Catholic. Steve converted to Catholicism on Holy Thursday in 2001 after being raised primarily Baptist and spending an extended period of his adult life as an agnostic. He attributes his conversion to his greater awareness and focus on Father Flanagan’s life and motivations that began with Steve leading the Father Flanagan memorial project for Ireland that began in 1999. He is a registered parishioner with St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Omaha, and is a mandated Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and Lector.
Family & Personal:
Steve and his wife Keery were married in 1991 and have five daughters. Keery teaches Religious Education at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Omaha; she also is a Certified Behavioral Analyst working with children with autism and other special needs at Westside Community Schools, Omaha, NE. They have five daughters, with their youngest currently in middle school. |
